Scoliosis Assessment

Scoliosis is a spinal deformity characterized by lateral deviation of the vertebrae, which can progress rapidly during childhood and adolescence.

Early diagnosis is crucial to avoid the need for surgery.

In most cases, the deformity is painless at first, going unnoticed, but with periodic evaluation, it becomes easier to detect scoliosis in its early stages.

Assessment

Follow the tests below, and if you suspect you may have scoliosis, seek immediate help.

Adam's Test

Ask the person being evaluated to bring their palms together, one against the other, and bending their body forward, as shown in the image on the left .

The test is positive if one side of the spine appears more prominent.

Observation of the vertebral column

Observe if one shoulder is higher than the other, if the muscles on both sides of the spine are similar, or if one side is more developed.

Also observe if the waist appears to curve more to one side.

Warning! A small percentage of scoliosis cases worsen over months. The most common mistake parents make is delaying taking their children to a specialist, thinking they have time to resolve the problem.

Keep your children out of this danger!

Remember to monitor the spine of children and adolescents every 6 months until they are 13 years old . Periodic evaluation and immediate treatment are essential to prevent the progression of scoliosis and consequently avoid the risk of corrective surgery.

Scoliosis Correction Surgery

If signs of scoliosis are detected during the initial examination, seek immediate attention from an orthopedic and physiotherapy service specializing in scoliosis.

Early physiotherapy treatment is the best way to avoid corrective scoliosis surgery.
