Find out if your child has scoliosis
Scoliosis is a spinal deformity characterized by lateral deviation of the vertebrae and which can progress rapidly in childhood and in the early adolescence. In these cases, surgical correction can be required. Therefore, diagnosis must be made early. In most cases, the deformity is painless at first, going unnoticed, but with periodic evaluation, it becomes easier to detect scoliosis in its early stages.
Monitoring children's spines every 6 months until they are 12 years old is essential to prevent scoliosis from progressing. Follow the tests below and if you suspect scoliosis, seek immediate help.
Ask the person being evaluated to place their palms together, one against the other, and lean their body forward, as in the image above.
The test is positive if one side of the spine appears more prominent.
Observe whether one shoulder is higher than the other, whether the muscles on both sides of the spine are similar or whether one side is more developed.
Also observe if the waist appears to have more curvature to one side.
